Generators that can be towed by a car, van or even a tractor unit.  These machines do what they say on the tin.

 They are typically towed behind a 7.5 tonne tipper truck and taken to roadworks or other type of building site and used to power a couple of lighting towers and maybe charge a couple of phones. These will usually be powered by diesel, but there are specialist gas-powered versions for operation indoors. Typically the power ratings will start at 8kw and can go as high as 90kw – although at over 3 tonnes you’ll probably want more than a 7.5 tonner to haul this one along!

Towable generators are often used for welding as this requires specialist power, sometimes at extremely remote locations.

There are other types of generators that are capable of being towed – these are typically found mounted to a semi-trailer. These are essentially static generators that have been permanently mounted to a trailer. The trailer is simply dropped off, rather than having to unload a heavy generator which would require the use of a crane. This solution is acceptable when there is plenty of space and the generator is required for relatively short periods of time, not warranting the rental of a crane.
