New Holland Marks 50 Years Of Skid Steers With Special Decal & Photo Contest
Five decades of producing anything is worth noting, but when you spend a half-century building one of the most versatile, commonly used machine types on a construction site, it deserves particular notice. Such is the case with New Holland, which this year is celebrating 50 years of manufacturing skid-steer loaders. To commemorate the milestone, New Holland will include a 50 Years Edition decal on all skid steers manufactured through 31 December, 2021, and is hosting a photo contest with prizes.
The Groundbreaking L35
The skid steer is now considered an essential investment for performing daily tasks on construction sites, farms, landscaping jobs, and more. New Holland’s skid steer development origins reside in hay tools design, the company says, as an early engineer learned his mower design could be turned on its side and produce an upward- and forward-reaching motion. The discovery served as the foundation for New Holland’s eventual industry-exclusive Super Boom vertical lift loader design.
New Holland would eventually build the L35, its first skid-steer loader, in 1971. The manufacturer claims it was the first skid steer with rollover and falling-object protection systems (ROPS and FOPS). New Holland adds that the L35’s vertical lift design provided greater reach and better clearance for loading as well as a longer wheelbase that provided a steady, smooth ride.
Submit Your Photo
To thank its customers, New Holland has a special giveaway contest running through December 31, 2021, in which the first 50 entrants to submit a photo of their New Holland skid steer will receive a free 50th anniversary skid steer poster and a 1:16 scale L334 skid-steer replica.
New Holland’s latest skid steers include the 12-model 300 Series, made up of both wheel and track skid-steer loaders with operating capacities from 725 to 2,812 kilograms (1,600 to 6,200 pounds) as well as Tier 4 Final engines rated for 60 to 114 gross horsepower (45 to 85 kilowatts). Other features include an 8-inch LCD multifunction display with integrated backup camera that provides access to engine performance data and electro-hydraulic control settings that let operators customize machine settings to their preferences and requirements.
