Buller Krane Enhances Rental Fleet With 120-Tonne Grove GMK5120L All-Terrain Crane
A Grove GMK5120L all-terrain crane has joined the rental fleet of Buller Krane, a fifth-generation family business based in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. Equipped with optional features such as a bi-fold swingaway jib, the 120-tonne (132.3-U.S.-ton) machine is intended for heavy construction and industrial use.
Grove parent company Manitowoc says Buller Krane purchased the machine in response to customer demand and as part of its ongoing commitment to modernising its rental fleet.
A Growing Grove All-Terrain Crane Fleet
Buller Krane’s new addition isn’t its first Grove all-terrain crane. The company, which also offers machine assembly and heavy and special transport services, has multiple Grove all-terrain models in its fleet across 4-, 5-, and 6-axle configurations.
Buller Krane Managing Director Tobias Buller travelled to Manitowoc’s factory in Wilhelmshaven, Germany, to take delivery of the crane.
“We regularly take the opportunity to receive cranes in Wilhelmshaven and also visit the factory to see the latest developments,” Buller says. “Like Buller Krane, Manitowoc has a dynamic approach to innovation, and we are excited to continue our partnership. The GMK5120L is a high-performance crane with powerful features and is perfect for our day-to-day operations.”
Grove GMK5120L Features & Specs
The GMK5120L is a 5-axle all-terrain crane featuring a 66-metre (216.5-foot), 7-section Megaform main boom and a 20-degree tiltable superstructure cab. Manitowoc offers the crane with a 9.7-m (31.8-ft) or 16-m (52.5-ft) swingaway jib, along with 8-m (26.2-ft) boom and jib extensions. Powered by a Mercedes-Benz OM471LA engine rated for 523 horsepower (385 kilowatts), the crane uses Manitowoc’s Crane Control System (CSS) and Megatrak suspension system.
Buller Krane specified its GMK5120L with a 16-m hydraulic bi-fold swingaway jib, Manitowoc’s MAXbase variable outrigger positioning system, and a working light package with additional LED lights to enhance visibility around the crane.
Flexible Transport Options
For owners such as Buller Krane, the GMK5120L’s taxi-crane flexibility means operators can travel to jobsites in different axle-load configurations while carrying a portion of the crane’s counterweight.
For example, the crane can travel with 14.6 t (16 U.S. t) of counterweight while remaining within a 12-t-per-axle load limit, or with 3.1 t (3.4 U.S. t) while staying within a 10-t-per-axle load limit. According to Manitowoc, the result is flexible operation and efficient transport planning.
