John Deere Debuts 1270H & 1470H Large Harvesters, H216 Harvester Head
John Deere recently introduced its large H Series forest machines. The H Series includes the new 1270H and 1470H wheeled harvesters, cut-to-length models with improved operator comfort, more power, and better fuel efficiency than earlier models. The new H216 harvester head is compatible with all H Series large forest machines and replaces Deere’s H270 head.
John Deere 1270H & 1470H Harvesters
Compared to John Deere’s G Series harvesters, the large H Series models increase production and lower fuel consumption per harvested cubic metre. Their 9-litre diesel engine has 10% more power at 295 horsepower (220 kilowatts) and 10% more torque at 1,445 newton-metres (1,065 pounds-foot). Also, their new, more powerful hydraulic system has three dedicated pumps and 350 bar (5,076 psi) of working pressure.
There are a few differences between the specifications of the 1270H and 1470H harvesters. The 1270H has a higher boom tilt angle at 28 degrees front and 20 degrees rear than the 1470H at 25 and 18 degrees, respectively. Also, the 6-wheel 1470H has 210 kilonewtons (47,210 pounds-force) of tractive force, while the 6-wheel 1270H has 190 kN (42,714 lbf) and the 8-wheel variant has 220 kN (49,458 lbf).
John Deere says the new H7 and H9 booms for H Series harvesters offer approximately 10% more lift power. It also delivers 10% and 5% more respective slewing torque. The H7 boom comes on the 1270H, and the H9 on the 1470H. The harvesters include Intelligent Boom Control 2.0 as standard, allowing the operator to focus on controlling the boom tip as IBC handles the rest of the boom joints’ movements.
A new Active Frame Lock option makes the 1270H and 1470H harvesters more stable on steep grades and flat terrain. The frame lock makes work more straightforward when the boom is turned sideways and gives the operator a larger working area.
John Deere collaborated with BMW Design Works on the design of the new harvesters and rearranged the engine, hydraulic oil and fuel tanks, pumps, cooler, and fan. The new layout and rear chassis result in a lower rear end that improves rear visibility while reducing the machine’s operating noise.
New Intelligent Cabin Key & TimberMatic H Control System
A new rotating and levelling cabin with 110 degrees of rotation (a 30-degree increase) to each side is now standard in H Series forest machines. John Deere developed the comfortable, quiet cab with customer feedback. It has a new secondary display, better climate control, and improved lighting.
New seat options include leather and heavy-duty units, among others, all available with ventilation. There is storage space for a cooler, shoes, a lunch tray, a water bottle, and more, plus amenities such as a wireless phone charging tray and a premium audio system with tweeters and a subwoofer. Also new are the armrests, forward-reverse pedal, and configurable key buttons. Deere offers joysticks with programmable buttons as well.
John Deere’s new Intelligent Cabin Key is a remote key personalised to the operator. Besides unlocking the door of the 1270H or 1470H harvester, the ICK also turns on systems such as the new TimberMatic H control system with operator-specific configurations. The Intelligent Cabin Key includes an immobilser for theft prevention and can be personalised for service technicians and trailer drivers.
TimberMatic H comes with maps that show the positioning and location of logs and the work progress at the jobsite, and it shares that information with other Deere machines in real time. The brand-new control and automation system has a completely redesigned, more straightforward user interface with night and daylight view settings. It is used in all John Deere’s H Series forestry machines for a consistent user experience across the product family.
New H216 Harvester Head
John Deere’s new H216 harvester head is compatible with H Series large wheeled and tracked harvesters. It is a 2-roller head engineered for both hardwood and softwood processing, with a maximum cutting diameter of 750 millimetres (29.5 inches), an operating range of 50 to 650 mm (2 to 25.6 in), and tilt capability up to 150 degrees.
The H216 head includes long processing knives, HD and standard tilt features, and multispeed feed motors. For bigger trees, the saw unit allows the use of wide, long saw bars with less vibration. The head uses the Super Mark colour marking system. A top-saw feature and a “find end” laser sensor option are also available.
